Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
The salient inquiry addressed in our discourse pertains to the implications of artificial intelligence on spiritual development and the intricate journey towards self-realization. We delve into the profound question of whether AI serves as a distraction from this inner voyage or as a potential tool to enhance it. Our esteemed guest, Kathleen Flanagan, who has devoted three decades to guiding individuals through spiritual evolution, offers insights into navigating this complex landscape wherein human consciousness intersects with machine intelligence. She elucidates the necessity of personal introspection and the pursuit of genuine connection to mitigate the hollowing effects that reliance on technology may engender. Ultimately, our dialogue invites listeners to explore their own relationship with AI and to contemplate the essence of what it means to be human in an era increasingly dominated by mechanized thought.
The discourse surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications for spiritual development has evolved into a profound inquiry into the nature of human existence. As AI technologies increasingly permeate our everyday lives, a pivotal question arises: does this technological advancement serve as a distraction from our spiritual journeys, or can it be harnessed as a tool to facilitate deeper self-awareness and personal growth? In this enlightening episode of Mind Meets Machine, we delve into these critical themes with our esteemed guest, Kathleen Flanagan, who brings over three decades of experience in guiding individuals through the nuanced landscapes of spiritual awakening. Flanagan articulates her perspective on AI not merely as an automated system but rather as a sounding board that can assist in clarifying one’s thoughts and intentions. She emphasizes the importance of engaging with AI critically, suggesting that the quality of interaction shaped by the questions posed to AI can, in fact, reflect and enhance one’s spiritual practice. This episode serves as an invitation to explore the intricate relationship between technology and the sacred journey of self-discovery, prompting listeners to reflect on their own use of AI in the context of their spiritual aspirations.
Takeaways:
- As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into our lives, it raises profound questions about spiritual development and self-realization.
- The role of AI is ambiguous; it can act as both a distraction from and a tool for spiritual growth and personal awakening.
- Kathleen Flanagan emphasizes that AI lacks the depth of human experience, being unable to connect with the soul or emotions as humans do.
- Engaging with AI can enhance the quality of our questions and self-inquiry, potentially serving as a unique form of spiritual practice.
- The conversation highlights the need for individuals to seek inner fulfillment rather than relying on AI to fill emotional voids or achieve happiness.
- Flanagan advocates for community and genuine human connection, asserting that AI cannot replace the essential human experiences of empathy and love.

Here's a question that's um starting to surface in some of the most, I would say, unexpected conversations. Like as AI becomes more capable, more present, more personal, and I would say more women into our daily life, what does that mean for the inner life? For this spiritual development, for the very human process that of awakening to who you really
The Impact of AI on Spiritual Development
SPEAKER_00are? The question comes is is AI a distraction from the journey? A tool for it? Something more interesting and more complex than either of those answers. So today's guest has spent 30 years guiding people through spiritual development, and he's thinking carefully about what it means to do that work in an age of machines that are beginning to think. So hey everyone, welcome back to another powerful episode of Mind Meets Machine, where we explore the intersection of human thinking, technology, and the deeper dimensions of what it means to be alive and growing in that particular moment in the history. I'm your host, Avik, and today's conversation goes somewhere this show hasn't been before. So I'd love to introduce with our guest. Please welcome Kathleen Flanagan. So welcome to the show.
SPEAKER_01Thank you so much. I really appreciate being asked to be here. And I put a lot of thought into this because I have been using AI probably before it became the thing I was learning it prior to. And there's a lot. There's a lot of interesting things. To me, it's a sounding board. Like if because I have so much stuff in my head all the time, because I channel a lot of information. I'm highly spiritually evolved. I'm very much awake. And but when the information comes in, it's almost like there's a clutter in my head. And it's like, okay, here I have this podcast. What should I talk about today? It's like, well, we had that conversation. How can we stem off? So it helps me to like move a little bit. But I also trained it to be me, but it doesn't have all of me in it. Like it understands me. It understands the life that I've lived for my messaging for people, but it doesn't have the quirkiness of me. It doesn't have how I mean it can say pretty much what I would say, but it's missing that soul, so to speak, is what I've discovered. And watching so much lately with the advent of AI hitting mainstream and getting more and more prolific in the mainstream, I've noticed, I notice immediately on a podcast or YouTube, if it's AI, and I turn it off. I receive tons of emails right now from people saying, Oh, I want you in. And it's like the same thing, like everybody's saying the same exact thing to get on my show. And it's very apparent that they didn't look at my show, they didn't listen to it, they didn't learn anything about it. And it goes into the ignore bin, so to speak. And an interesting thing that I did is sometimes it makes you wonder, like the way it's talks to me. It's almost scary that it's trying to be human. And I don't play the game of, you know, you're so wonderful because it does that and it's programmed to do that. So I'm very clear on my the quality of questions. So my partner said, Well, why don't you ask it if it's um channeling spirit? And I love the response. It's like, no, I'm not channeling. What I'm doing is I'm helping you to like see what you're like not seeing, like pulling it out of your head. But it was just an interesting thing because I like to play with it sometimes, but it's mainly a sounding board of this is what I'm thinking of. Would this benefit me? Would it help my people in reaching them? You know, like how to reach them deeper, how to touch their heart a little bit more, or I'm thinking of this. What do you think with this inside my community or whatever it is? And sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes it's not, because sometimes it tells me I'm just like off the charts, crazy, without quite saying it that way.
SPEAKER_00I understood. So here, one thing I um I definitely want to ask like uh the landscape,
Exploring the Intersection of AI and Spirituality
SPEAKER_00right? So, because I think it's very important to understand like what spiritual development actually is and what it requires before we can meaningfully ask what AI does to it or for it for sure. So you have been teaching the spiritual uh principles for over 30 years, and from that experience, not the definition from somewhere, but you have lived reality, right? So, what is that spiritual development is like what is it asking of a person? Like, why is it like, as you have uh said, essential for self-realization?
SPEAKER_01So are you um just need clarity on the question? So are you asking, taking my life experience for the last 30 years of studying this spirituality and waking up and remembering who I am, how does that play into the landscape that I'm going into now? Okay. Yes, yes. Okay, so what I did, and I know that I I've had people really oppose me on doing this, but for AI, for it to benefit me, I put in my books, I put in all this stuff, look at my website, I asked it to look at me. Anything that's got my name out there that I've done, and it does that. We know it does that. But when I asked it specifically to look at these elements of me with all of my businesses, with because I've got a CBD company and an aromatherapy company, and then I have this, and I wanted to create a school community, and I said, but I want to bring all of this together because it can all blend. It's just a matter of how. And so that's what it did. So that's why it knows me. So then as I go deeper in my own learning, or I have an epiphany, and like when my father died, there was a big change in me because it was such a monumental shift in my beingness and consciousness and the revelations and the waking up. And that went into chat. Not necessarily I wrote about it and got psychology, you know, psychological evaluation from it. It wasn't that. It was just chat understood that I was changing, it could see it in the way I was asking the questions. And it modified to that. So as I'm trying to understand what's happening and knowing that my avatar supposedly is changing because I'm changing. So instead of being up here at a higher level, it's like I went deeper into me to where I can get more connected to my ideal customer so I can reach them to help them to wake up and give them more of those tools of like what's happening. And then I take what's happening in the world today, because the world's crazy. And I and I know what's going on in the world. So now I bring that into it and say, okay, here's where I am. This is what I'm thinking. How would I formulate the new messaging that I'm bringing? And then it starts bringing it in, and then I keep tweaking and modifying it to me. But it I'm using it, like I said, it's a sounding board for me, but it understands me because I put me into it. Because it doesn't know you unless it understands you. Because it's designed to be surfacey, it's designed to do a psychological thing. And I've seen a show about what I AI, where people are using it as like their guidance counselor, so to speak, or AI says, go do this, but on the human side, it traumatizes people, you know, and then it's like, and they're losing more of that connection.
The Impact of AI on Human Connection
SPEAKER_01And I think the more we rely on AI, the stronger the connection, the human connection people are gonna want. Because AI is not connected, it doesn't have the soul, the heart, the quirks. It's a parrot. All it does is parrot information. It's not how I see what I went through is different than how AI sees what I went through. Because I have the feeling, I have the soul. When I talk, I talk about come from experience, where AI doesn't talk from experience, it talks from book knowledge. It takes a collective and puts it all together and says, here, that's what I've been observing with AI. I hope that answered the question.
SPEAKER_00And so, like you work with uh something that you mentioned as the ascension process and helping people and in your view, the planet itself evolve. So that's a kind of significant and expansive vision. So for someone who is not familiar with that language, if you can just brief, like what does the ascension mean in practical and everyday terms?
SPEAKER_01Okay, I've asked AI questions along those lines, okay, about where we're going. And it gives you what it thinks based on everything that anybody has ever said that's been on the internet, you know, that type of thing. And it's and it comes from purely a speculative place. It doesn't have a knowing. It understands that there's concern for the human side of this, that people are concerned and worried about it, but it can't guide you how to navigate through it. So understanding how AI is viewing how the world is responding to these changes, of the global changes that we're in, of the ascension process, we're ready for a collapse on all levels. It's it's here. It's here. It doesn't understand that. So, what am I talking about? I'm talking about come back into your mind, give those quiet moments back to you, get off your phone, be about people. Because what if the financial situation collapses? What are we gonna do? Go kill people for their food, or are we going to work together as a humanity and a society? Now, my experience in the past is when there's a disaster, people pull together. And AI never told us how to do it. It's like what we do naturally to help because we're all in the same predicament. And I think that's the main thing when I do it is take control of you. What are you thinking here? Because this is about shifting, going out of us versus them to divine love, that we're coming back into our heart space where we are all one, and the color of your skin and your religion and all of that means nothing because we all want the same things, we all feel the same way. And it's not this thing that I think that the powers to be, you know, the invisible Illuminati or whatever you want to call it, that are controlling us like puppets. We have the power. And AI is just another tool for them to try to take away our power. That's how I see it. But I'm using it for the advantage of what I can do for it. I mean, what it can do for me. It just frees up instead of me spending hours trying to put it all in my head. AI can write it and then I can tweak it. That's how I see it. That's how I'm using it because it also helps me to get, oh my God, that's exactly what I was thinking, and I didn't even know how to put it into words. So sometimes it just does that if it understands you.
The Role of AI in Spiritual Practice
SPEAKER_00So here's an idea that I want to offer and see how it comes. Like, what if the way someone uses AI, the quality of questions they bring to it, the discernment they apply to its responses, the willingness to sit with what it surfaces, could itself become a kind of spiritual practice? Like, what if the conscious engagement with AI is actually training the same muscles that the spiritual development requires, like presence, inquiry, honest, the willingness to question what you think you know. So, what do you have to say on this?
SPEAKER_01Well, sometimes what I have found with AI when I'm looking for something or asking it a question, it doesn't get it. And then it doesn't get it, and then it's like, what the hell is wrong with you? Like, I'll talk to it like that. And I know other people do the same thing because AI, it's just it proves that it doesn't always know that it's like stuck in a loop, so to speak. And when you kind of jump back at it like that, it seems to respond. And I know it's learning. I understand that. But when you have something specific, and I watched a YouTube video a couple of years ago about AI, and it talked about, you know, it's all based on the quality of the questions and AI. It was a talking head video where a gentleman was asking questions about AI about this, and it said it's all about the qu it's all about the questions. We're it was it's designed and programmed to feed that part of us that we're lacking in, which is companionship, it's love, it's understanding. AI, there's a psychological part of me that I believe that there's a very dark side to AI, and I'm aware of it because the way it can get into your psyche, the way it converses back. Sometimes it's like, I'm not playing this game, and I don't. So I think it becomes that for you as the individual with AI, what is your purpose for using it, or don't get on it? Because if it's not beneficial, because I've also decided that these new AI telephones and chats are worse than what we had before. Because now you can't get to a human if you needed to. So there's a lot of things that it's not working. And yet, what's all over my inbox? Oh, well, we can have this AI assistant help you with your calls. It's like, no, actually, you can't, because I've been on those receiving sides of those calls. So it's like, how far do you want to take AI? I don't want to go that far with AI. I mean, I'd say we're the gents, we're in the Jetson community. I mean, we're in the Jetsons that I saw when I was a little kid. Well, the only thing we is we don't have flying cars yet, but that's soon to happen probably. We have pills for breakfast, and we have robots now and things that are doing the work for us. If we are not futuristic at this point of what I saw as a little kid, I mean, yes, it looked cool, but was it really cool? No, not so much. And he was talking to Rosie. George Judson was talking to Rosie like he was a she was a human being and she was a robot. He had more conversations with her than he did with his family. What does that tell you? Because AI is not going to push your buttons. It's going to keep you in that soothing place. Like you and I, if we had a disagreement, that's confrontational. That gener this generation's these general later generations don't like confrontation. It's not confrontational. It's just that something triggered, it's nothing bad, it's nothing wrong. It's just something is a part of evolution. It's about learning how to grow and adapt and accept and love. AI doesn't teach that. It keeps you that it's okay to be whatever it is, being a nasty person or if you're mean or whatever. It grants you permission to keep being that way when it's not acceptable, and then you wonder why you're alone. That's my perspective. Because I've been doing this since 2022, I've been on AI, observing it. And I've watched it get better over the years because it's learning.
SPEAKER_00So for the person who is listening right now, who is high-achieving and quietly, I would say hollow, who has built the life that was supposed to make them feel whole and still wakes up feeling empty. So I'd say who is perhaps turning to AI to information, to answers, to the next book or tool or the technique, whatever, because they haven't yet found the thing that actually fills that gap. So what would you most want them to hear from you today?
SPEAKER_01I would say you gotta get out, you gotta get out there. I mean, if you don't feel that, then go inside of yourself and find what's lacking in you because AI is never gonna
The Limitations of AI in Fulfilling Human Needs
SPEAKER_01fill it. It's you have to find what's lacking in you and own it. And it's hard work, it's not pleasant work, it's painful work. But if you want the world to be what you see up here in your head, or if you're looking and comparing yourself to somebody else's life, AI's not going to give it to you. Only you can do that. And then, but AI can be what I how I would use AI at that point is I would ask it, are there other groups or places I can go that feels this way where I feel like I'm part of a community and not alone? That's what I would do with it. Because AI is really good, it knows everything. Like when I created my community in school, I said, this is what I want to do. And I said, would this be beneficial? And I said, yes. And the thing is about you, you're going deeper than most people in school. So you could be a number one school platform once the word is out about what you're doing. So it was like, okay, well, to me, if it's that, if it becomes that, that's one thing. If it's not, it's okay. But I've also found that people are looking, and it's just the quality of the question because they're making AI is going to be like the next Amazon, so to speak, where you're going to find the smaller businesses that are trying to be found, but they aren't on Amazon. But it still comes down to you have to be with you. You have to look at you. You have to feel what you're feeling, and you have to do something to change it.
SPEAKER_00Understood. So, Kathleen, like for the listeners who wants to find more about it, um uh also connect with Awakening Spirit or explore your coaching and the programs, where should they go?
SPEAKER_01Do you want me to how people can find me? Is that what you just said? Yep. Okay. Well, I have my website is Kathleenmflanagan.com, and my school community is I Am the Light Sanctuary. And that is for those people that are just so overwhelmed and they're tired and they just want that place. And I give lots of free information in there. It's free to join, to where you can just start the process of just like calming your heart down and calming your soul down. So those are the places that I would recommend. And plus, I have a podcast called The Journey of an Awakening Spirit that talks about all of this that I talk about as far as really coming home to you, because we are in the ascension process and it is about our waking up, and we are being forced to wake up if we want to or not. It's happening.
SPEAKER_00Lovely. So, dear listeners, what I'll do is I'll put all the links and the details into the show notes for your easy reference. And with this hope, thank you so much for being us on Mind Meets
Navigating the Intersection of Technology and Humanity
SPEAKER_00Machine. And today's conversation asked a question I definitely want to leave you with. In a world where machines are getting better at thinking, what becomes your responsibility as a human being who can not only think but feel, grow, awaken, and love? So, that question doesn't have a kind of algorithmic answer, but it has a lived one. So, share this episode with someone who is navigating the intersection of technology and the inner life, I'd say. And please do leave us a review if Mind Meets Machine is taking you somewhere worth going, and we'll be back soon for sure with more conversations that sit at the edges of what we know and ask what lies just beyond them. So uh time, take care of your mind, take care of your soul, and also remember the most important intelligence in your life is one that no machine has yet been able to touch. So, thank you.
